If someone even mentions throwing something away in the trash my ears perk up. I come from a loooong line of trash pickers, I mean treasure hunters. My favorite places to get treasures are the Good Will outlet stores (soooo different than the regular Good Will and I will explain later), garage sales, items sitting on the curb, items sitting in a trash bin, items sitting on the ground...you get the point.
What is the Good Will outlet and why is it different from the Good Will?
Ok you have Good Will (GW) and then you have the Good Will Outlet (GWO, or as I call it at home, the dumpy will). 2 completely different places. Same company, different things. The Good Will outlet is a trash pickers paradise! I get all excited, my heart races and I begin to see stars. What will I find today?
At the GWO you buy things by the pound. There are no racks only huge bins full of goodies for everyone to pick through (they rotate the bins with new to you items ever 2 hours!!). I am not sure how items get to the GWO. Are they the items that did not sell at the regular GW? No clue but here are just a few of the items I have found...
Coach purses
Coach trench coat
Tons of toys for my kids (thomas the train, dinosaurs, cars...you name it)
Jewelry
Razor scooter
Tons of name brand clothes and shoes
Books
Furniture
I could go on and on and on and on....
Things you will NOT find at the GWO!
Clean people
Fresh breath
Clean hair
You get the point. I usually just roll out of bed and hit it!
Things you will need!
Gloves. Sometimes there is glass so I use the dish washing gloves from the dollar tree.
A good attitude. When they bring out new bins people line up waiting to grab. You are NOT allowed to grab until the GWO worker says you can grab (this is inside stuff people!! Listen up!!)
Sometimes people can get nasty. Just walk away. Me being me...I may or may not have gotten "in to it" with a few people but this is NOT recommended. They will kick you out.
Really it is not that bad. You will be fine:)
The best item I found in a trash bin...
Tons of USB (thumb drives, memory sticks or what ever you want to call them). I was walking past the dumpster behind my building when something shiny caught my eye. What's that? hmmm let me inspect this a little closer. OMG - Apparently someone had thrown out these little pouches and inside each one had a memory stick! Holy Cow, it was on like Donkey Kong. I had to get a stool to get my 5 foot 1 inch body into the dumpster but once in there I found like 50! I had my coworkers help me and one lady found a $5 bill! That's what I'm talkin' about!
